Policy’ posters in classrooms

The House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging the Department of
Education (DepEd) to require schools to post signages bearing the quote “Honesty is the Best
Policy” in all elementary and high school classrooms in the country.
In House Resolution 895, which was unanimously adopted Wednesday night, the House
said the posting of these signages seeks to remind students to take the “daang matuwid”
(straight path)—the slogan of President Benigno Aquino III’s administration.
“The signage will serve as an effective medium to promote good manners and right
conduct and will greatly benefit the overall personality of students to become conscientious and
upright citizens,” the resolution read.
It added that the classroom is the “best place” to place these signages because “every
school must uphold and instill among its students” the value of honesty.
Davao Oriental Rep. Thelma Almario, who authored the resolution, meanwhile, said she
believes honesty is “among the very important values” that should be inculcated in students.“I am just so worried that honesty is barely, or rarely used now in education and
everything that we say and do,” Almario said in a statement.
Almario added that teachers have the responsibility to make sure that they are honing
honest Filipino citizens.
“Those who are at the frontline, in contact with the younger generations, have to stand
for the responsibility of carrying their lifestyle to be honest,” she added. —
